08 Oct Save Us From What?
I was just reading in my research for Sunday and came across this quote. Thought I would share it with you.
If you listen to gospel presentations today you would think that Christ was a Savior from trouble. Wouldn’t you? That Jesus came to save you from your sadness, that He came to save you from your meaninglessness, that He came to save you from your sorrow, He came to save you from your failure. He came to save you from your loneliness. The Bible says He came to save you from your sin. The issue is not sadness, meaninglessness, sorrow, failure, loneliness, the issue is sin…sin.
What a great reminder of how awesome and amazing salvation, through Jesus death and resurrection, is. God saved us from sin and its accompanying judgment, penalty, wrath, and condemnation. God saved us from our greatest foe – sin and its destructive work.
But that is not all of the story for in saving us from sin unto sanctification in, through and by Jesus Christ He also gives us; victory (in Christ and ultimately in heaven) over our trouble, delight which replaces sadness, purpose to crush our meaninglessness, joy which blots out sorrow, power which overcomes failure, and fellowship which conquers loneliness. We get it all in Christ Jesus!!!
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! (Psalm 95:1)
