29 May God’s Impeccable Timing
God’s timing in answering prayer is perfect and my hope is to illustrate this as I tell you how I came to work for Redemption.
A while back, I used to work in the business world where I met my husband Chris. Once we got married and had our second child, Chris and I decided the best thing for our family was for me to stay home with the kids, and so I became a stay-at-home mom. I have never been much of a career person, but I did miss the reward of a job well done at the end of the day – you know, that feeling of accomplishment. My joy of being a stay-at-home mom was different. I knew what I was doing was the right thing for us but the reality of cleaning, cooking, and watching the kids did not bring the same sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.
Fast forward to the kids being school aged and we decided to homeschool. I absolutely love the fact that I played and still play a major role in their schooling, to be both their parent and teacher. I would not want it any other way. To be part of their learning process, helping them work things out, figuring out the answers together – talk about rewarding!
Once the kids got older, they started playing sports and eventually started playing in competitive sports teams. As you can imagine our expenses started increasing. In addition to Chris working full time, the Lord had provided me with a part time job outside of the home. This meant my mom had to come and watch the kids while I was at work. It did help financially but it was not ideal for our homeschooling environment. I started praying for a part time job, something I could possibly do from home. I prayed, looked for jobs, even reached out to past employers with the idea of working from home but there were no takers. I continued praying and took a weekend part time job in which I worked for a few hours every couple of weeks.
Fast forward three years, still working both jobs mentioned and still praying for a part time job in which I could do some work from home but having the flexibility of working afternoons outside the home. One day, an email arrived from Pastor Norm / Karen asking if we could meet regarding a possible job at Redemption. From the brief job description, it sounded very appealing to not only my personality but also my unique skill set. Even more amazing was the fact that this job was related to the schooling field I was taking. The rest is history, and here I am! I’m so very thankful that the Lord has answered my prayer of years and years! The thing I realized though is the fact that the Lord knew and had it perfectly timed. He knew when my kids would be ready, when I would be ready, when Chris would be ready. His timing is perfect.
Yes, it is hard to wait, waiting on the Lord’s timing is not easy. I came across this and it resonated with me:
“Psalm 27:14 says ‘Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!’
Waiting is one of the most difficult things we humans do. We wait in line at the store, we wait in hospital waiting rooms, we wait in line for our license, we wait for our dentist or doctor’s appointment… wait, wait, wait! But wait (sorry), we must wait for His timing. To move ahead of God’s divine timing is to take matters into our own hands. To lag behind God’s timing is to miss out on His blessings. No wonder those who walked with God knew how to wait. Someone who is walking with God is close enough to Him to see that they might have to wait and have the wisdom of knowing how to wait patiently.”
